Welcome to Sons of the Thames Rowing Club.
|
| Sons of the Thames Rowing Club was formed in Hammersmith over 100 years ago with the aim, still enshrined in its constitution, of furthering the sport of rowing in the Borough. Its name derives from the days when its members were the watermen and tradesmen of the Tideway, and it may even be one of the really early rowing clubs. Today, the mix of women and men is around 50:50. Since its first premises near Hammersmith Bridge, the club has moved progressively westwards; our latest move, in 2000, was to share the fabulous premises of Linden House, on Upper Mall, with London Corinthian Sailing Club. With a 999-year lease on the building we expect this move to have been our last!
Sons aims to extend a welcome and find a place for anyone within the club, regardless of their rowing ability. We have strong men's and women's crews that train and compete at all points of the scale, be it aiming for Henley Royal Regatta, or simply to keep fit in an enjoyable social way. Don’t worry if you have not rowed before, as we have a excellent novice programme that aims to get you competing as soon as possible.
We have a dedicated team of coaches who will ensure that you get the coaching to suit your aims, both in rowing and sculling, and they and the captains will work to integrate any new member into the existing squads.
If you don’t fancy rowing but want to get on the river and are the right size, we can also teach you to cox on the tideway. Experienced and novice coxes are always welcomed, and would quickly find a place training with a crew and then competing at various levels.
If you're interested in rowing at Sons, don't hesitate to get in contact with us!
