Novice Rowing
From Sons of the Thames Rowing Club
Beginners (new to the sport) and Novices (with some rowing experience but new to club racing) are generally very welcome at Sons.
For beginners we offer
- Opportunity to learn the basics of rowing, both safely and socially; and
- Mixture of land and water training, a little theory and lots of practice.
For novices we offer
- Development of fitness, technique, togetherness and morale; and
- Racing on the Tideway and other regattas in the South-East.
We run a beginners course once or twice a year. The course normally consists of coached sessions once or twice a week for two to three months, after which participants should be at a level where they can join the club's main novice squad.
If you are interested in starting to row in the future or simply want to find out more, please do get in touch via the contacts tab. Novices should contact either the Men's or Women's Captain, while beginners should contact the Beginners Co-ordinator.
